“The past year has been truly unforgettable for all of us due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Everything has been turned upside down, ground to a halt, and we still do not know when this pandemic will end. Indeed, it has been difficult to pack a backpack and travel, as Vietnam has gone through several outbreaks and lockdowns in various localities.
However, I still believe that ‘after the rain, the sun shines again.’ Thinking positively, it is thanks to this quiet time that I have been able to write the content and refine the illustrations for this book more meticulously. The drawings are elaborately crafted, polished, and far more complete than ever before.” – Author Le Rin.
Following in the footsteps of this talented young artist, we are whisked away to Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Con Dao, Soc Trang, Ninh Binh, and Hue. Each destination leaves a powerful impression—from the distinct local culture, ancient architecture, and cuisine to the friendliness and hospitality of the people. Yet, no matter the region, the overarching feeling remains: Everywhere feels like home.
While we wait for the pandemic to fully pass, let us admire the beauty of Vietnam and its people through the artistic pages of “The Vietnam Odyssey” – Vol. 2. We hope this book will become a cherished companion for you to explore this S-shaped land together.
Excerpt from the book:
HON BA ISLAND: THE TEMPLE OF THE WATER DRAGON GODDESS
Hon Ba is a small islet situated near Nghinh Phong Cape at Back Beach (Bãi Sau), Vung Tau City. Perched on the island is a shrine known as Hon Ba Temple (Miếu Hòn Bà), which was built over a century ago.
The entire islet is blanketed in lush greenery, featuring a gate and a small path winding up to the shrine. Since Hon Ba is located close to the shore, when the tide recedes, a rocky path emerges from the sea, allowing visitors to walk across and visit the temple.
The temple is dedicated to the Water Dragon Goddess (Thủy Long Thần Nữ), a deity of great significance to the spiritual life of local fishermen. Every year, the site hosts numerous festivals celebrated according to the Lunar calendar.
LOVE PEAK (ĐỈNH TÌNH YÊU)
Love Peak is a majestic mountain characterized by its stunning cliffs and a lush canopy of evergreen forest. It is located on Hon Ba Island, the third-largest island in the archipelago, following Con Son and Hon Bay Canh.
Hon Ba is separated from Con Son Island by the Cua Tu channel, which forms Ben Dam Bay. This bay is home to Ben Dam Port, a vital anchoring spot for the fishing boats of the local islanders.
